Team Orwigsburg building more bridges for West Virginians

Pa. group returning to the state this spring

Team Orwigsburg is working again for West Virginia, building two new bridges for flood survivors in Clay County. The Pennsylvania-based nonprofit worked last year with the WV VOAD Bridge Project, constructing bridges for flood survivors whose private access bridges were damaged or destroyed in floods. This year, with funding for materials from the WV VOAD Disaster Relief Fund and WV VOAD member agencies, teams of volunteers have been spending each Saturday for the past few weeks prefabricating the bridges in a Pennsylvania warehouse. They’re doing everything from fitting and painting the steel I-beams to building concrete forms and decking for the abutments. Once completed, the bridges will be transported in April to two properties in Clay County that sustained major damage during the June 2016 flood. Team Orwigsburg volunteers will travel to Clay County to complete installation of the bridges, as well as repair some flood-damaged homes there and replace the decking on another bridge in Clendenin. WV VOAD is so grateful for the partnership with this group and its innovative contributions to the WV Bridge Project!
