Donations Help WV VOAD Lead Disaster Response

December 1, 2019

Dear Friend,

Your WV VOAD is at work for you!  Did you know that West Virginia Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster maintains readiness to respond to natural or man-made disasters anywhere in the State at all times?  WV VOAD is involved in all phases of disaster:  response, recovery, preparedness, and mitigation throughout the year.  Just since 2016 WV VOAD has:

  • 2016: Responded to historic flooding in twelve counties
    • Distributed water and supplies
    • Established Long term recovery committees and deployed volunteers
    • Trained case managers, construction managers and volunteers
    • Assisted in the recovery of over 2300 families including reconstruction of 78 bridges
    • Provided funding for disaster related unmet needs
  • 2017: Marion, Wetzel, Marshall and Ohio County flooding
    • Volunteer deployment
    • Long Term Recovery Committee set up and training
    • Unmet needs funding for disaster related expenses
  • 2018: Putnam County flooding
    • Volunteer deployment
    • Unmet needs funding for disaster related expenses
  • 2019: Randolph, Preston and Grant County flooding
    • Water/clean up bucket distribution
    • Port-a-john distribution
    • Established case management and unmet needs funding for disaster related expenses

As you can see WV VOAD is very busy!  When we are not responding to a disaster, we are preparing for the next one.  In fact, WV VOAD is West Virginia’s lead organization in disaster response with responsibility for mass care, feeding and sheltering whenever and wherever disaster strikes.

Although we play a critical role in the State’s emergency operation plan, as a non-profit organization our funding comes exclusively from philanthropy and donations.  As you consider your year-end giving, please help WV VOAD remain strong and ready to respond vigorously to disaster. Click the DONATE tab to give online or mail your check to PO Box 178, Williamson WV 26551.  Thank you in advance for your help.  A gift of any size helps WV VOAD serve the citizens of West Virginia.

Best Personal Regards,

Jenny Gannaway
Executive Director
